ABSTRACT The objective of this study was to evaluate the effect of irrigation with low- and high-salinity water on the increment of salts in the soil, the production components of sour passion fruit and the leaching of salts by rainfall and by leaching fraction of 10%. The treatments were arranged in randomized blocks, in a split-plot scheme, corresponding to three irrigation management practices [evaluation of soil chemical attributes before irrigation; and after irrigation with water of low electrical conductivity (0.35 dS m-1), and high electrical conductivity (4.00 dS m-1) in the main plot], and in the subplot two soil depths of evaluation (0-20 and 20-40 cm) and three soil sampling times (at 115 days after transplanting of seedlings (DAT) - beginning of flowering; at 199 DAT - end of the dry season; and at 379 DAT - end of the rainy season). Irrigation increased the electrical conductivity of the soil saturation extract, with higher values in the surface layer and at the end of the dry season. Rainfall during the rainy season reduced the saline character of soil from moderately saline and strongly saline, in treatments irrigated with water of low and high electrical conductivity, to non-saline and slightly saline, respectively. Irrigation with high-electrical conductivity water negatively affected the production components and yield of sour passion fruit.

RESUMO O objetivo deste estudo foi avaliar o efeito da irrigação com água de baixa e alta salinidade sobre o incremento de sais no solo, os componentes de produção do maracujazeiro azedo e a lixiviação dos sais pela precipitação pluviométrica e pela fração de lixiviação de 10%. Os tratamentos foram dispostos em blocos ao acaso, em esquema de parcelas subdivididas, correspondendo a três práticas de manejo de irrigação [avaliação dos atributos químicos do solo antes da irrigação; e após irrigação com água de baixa (0,35 dS m-1) e alta condutividade elétrica (4,00 dS m-1) na parcela principal], e na subparcela duas profundidades de avaliação dos atributos químicos do solo (0-20 e 20-40 cm) e três épocas de amostragem de solo (aos 115 dias após o transplantio das mudas (DAT) - início do florescimento das plantas; aos 199 DAT - final do período de estiagem; e aos 379 DAT - final do período chuvoso). A irrigação elevou a condutividade elétrica do extrato de saturação do solo, com superioridade na camada superficial e no final do período seco. A precipitação pluviométrica durante a estação chuvosa reduziu o caráter salino do solo de medianamente e fortemente salino, nos tratamentos irrigados com água de baixa e alta condutividade elétrica, para não salino e ligeiramente salino, respectivamente. A irrigação com água de alta condutividade elétrica afetou negativamente os componentes de produção e produtividade do maracujazeiro azedo.

RESUMO A irregularidade das chuvas na região semiárida do Brasil e do mundo exerce ação limitante na produção agrícola, em geral, inclusive das espécies frutíferas. Nessas condições, a irrigação é o insumo que mantém o sistema produtivo com viabilidade econômica e social. O estudo foi desenvolvido no período de 2012 a 2014, no município de Remígio, Estado da Paraíba, Brasil, com o objetivo de avaliar a produção de gravioleira ‘Morada’ cultivada em condições de sequeiro e irrigada, no solo sem e com cobertura morta em duas safras. Os tratamentos foram distribuídos em blocos casualizados com três repetições, em arranjo fatorial 2 × 3 × 2, relativos às plantas não irrigadas (lâmina de 0 mm) e irrigadas semanalmente (lâmina de 17,2 mm) no solo sem cobertura, com cobertura a partir de restos de culturas e com bagaço de sisal nas safras agrícolas de 2012/2013 e 2013/2014. No solo sem cobertura a irrigação elevou a produtividade de 5,3 para 34,7 t ha-1 na primeira safra e de 9,4 para 57,7 t ha-1 na segunda safra. O uso conjunto da irrigação e a cobertura com resíduo de sisal proporcionou as maiores produtividades. O uso do resíduo de sisal como cobertura morta aumentou o número e a massa média de frutos, a produção por planta e a produtividade da gravioleira ‘Morada’ em relação ao solo sem cobertura e coberto por resíduos culturais.

ABSTRACT Irregular rainfall in the semiarid region of Brazil and in the world exerts a limiting action on agricultural production, in general, including fruit species. Under these conditions, irrigation is the input that keeps the production system both economically and socially viable. This study was carried out from 2012 to 2014, in the municipality of Remígio, Paraíba State, Brazil, aiming at evaluating the production of ‘Morada’ soursop cultivated under rainfed and irrigated conditions, in soil with and without mulch, in two harvests. The treatments were distributed in randomized block design with three replicates in a 2 × 3 × 2 factorial scheme, corresponding to non-irrigated plants (0 mm water depth) and plants irrigated weekly (17.2 mm water depth) in soil without mulching, with cover crop residues, and with a sisal bagasse mulch in the 2012/2013 and 2013/2014 crop years. In the soil without mulching, irrigation increased yield from 5.3 to 34.7 t ha-1 in the first harvest and from 9.4 to 57.7 t ha-1 in the second harvest. The association between irrigation and mulch with sisal residue promoted the highest yield. The use of mulch of sisal residue increased the number and mean mass of fruits, production per plant and yield of ‘Morada’ soursop compared to the soil without mulch and covered by crop residues.

RESUMO Um experimento foi conduzido no município de Remígio, Paraíba, no período de julho/2013 a maio/2014, para avaliar os efeitos da salinidade da água de irrigação, biofertilizante bovino e potássio na salinidade do solo, composição foliar e produção do maracujazeiro amarelo cv BRS Gigante Amarelo. Os tratamentos foram distribuídos em blocos casualizados arranjados em fatorial 2 × 2 × 2, referente à condutividade elétrica das águas de 0,35 e 4,00 dS m-1, ao solo sem e com biofertilizante bovino e cloreto de potássio convencional (KCl) e revestido com polímeros orgânicos fornecidos mensalmente. O biofertilizante bovino foi diluído em água não salina na proporção de 50% e aplicado em volume de 6 L planta-1 da mistura um dia antes do transplantio e a cada 90 dias. A combinação de água salina com biofertilizante bovino aumentou a salinidade do solo para uma proporção similar entre a água salina e o cloreto de potássio convencional e protegido com polímeros orgânicos. A salinidade da água de irrigação associada a ambos os tipos de cloreto de potássio e biofertilizante elevou o caráter do solo de não salino para salino. As plantas de maracujazeiro BRS Gigante Amarelo, no inicio da floração, exceto em nitrogênio e potássio, estavam deficientes nos demais macronutrientes, mas produziram frutos com massa adequada para o mercado consumidor.

ABSTRACT An experiment was undertaken in Remígio County, Paraíba State, Brazil, from July 2013 to May 2014, in order to evaluate the effects of saline water irrigation, bovine biofertilizer, and potassium type on soil salinity, leaf macronutrient composition, and production of yellow passion fruit cv. BRS Gigante Amarelo. Treatments were distributed in randomized blocks, arranged in a 2 × 2 × 2 factorial design, with reference to electrical conductivity of the water (0.35 and 4.00 dS m-1), soil with and without bovine biofertilizer, and application of potassium chloride as a conventional treatment (KCl) and in an organic polymer-coated form, supplied monthly. Bovine biofertilizer was diluted in non-saline water (proportion, 50%) and applied via water at a volume of 6 L plant-1 one day before transplanting, and then every 90 days. The combination of saline water with bovine biofertilizer raised soil salinity to a similar proportion when comparing saline water and conventional potassium chloride with saline water and polymer-coated potassium chloride. The increase in water saline concentrations associated with both types of potassium chloride and with bovine biofertilizer elevated soil salinity from non-saline to saline. On starting to flower, plants of cv. BRS Gigante Amarelo were deficient in macronutrients other than nitrogen and potassium, but nonetheless produced fruits of an adequate mass for the consumer market.

Abstract The salinity of irrigation water can affect the growth and development of most plants of commercial interest. Aiming to study these aspects in passion fruit culture, an experiment was performed to evaluate the effects of bovine biofertilizer and potassium fertilization on gas exchange and production of the passion fruit ‘BRS Giant Yellow’ irrigated with non-saline and saline water. The treatments were arranged in randomized blocks with sub-subdivided plots using the 2×(3×5) scheme, which refers to two levels of electrical conductivity of the irrigation water as the main plot (0.35 and 4.00 dS m−1) and the combination of three potassic fertilization practices (without fertilization, fertilized with conventional and slow release KCl) with five doses of bovine biofertilizer (0, 25, 50, 75 and 100% of dose of 15 L m−2) in the subplots, with three replicates and 12 plants per plot. The physiological variables and the productivity were evaluated in two harvests, and the data were submitted to statistical evaluation of samples repeated in time. The application of bovine biofertilizer and potassium in soil with a sandy texture irrigated with saline water did not inhibit the degenerative effect of the salts on the photosynthetic rates of the plants. The salinity of the irrigation water reduced stomatal conductance, transpiration and net photosynthesis of the plants, but in the second crop, the instantaneous water use efficiency was higher. Although the productivity decreased from the first to the second harvest, the biofertilizer associated with potassic fertilization increased the yield of the crop, which surpassed the average of Brazil, the Brazilian Northeast and the State of Paraiba, Brazil.

Resumen La salinidad del agua de riego puede afectar el crecimiento y desarrollo de la mayoría de las plantas de interés comercial. Con el objetivo de estudiar estos aspectos en el cultivo de la maracuyá, se realizó un experimento para evaluar los efectos del biofertilizante bovino y la fertilization potásica sobre el intercambio gaseoso y la producción de frutos de maracuyá, BRS Giant Yellow irrigado con agua salina y no salina. Los tratamientos se realizaron en bloques al azar con parcelas sub-subdivididas, utilizando el esquema fatorial 2×(3×5), haciendo referencia a dos niveles de conductividad eléctrica del agua de riego como parcela principal (0,35 y 4,00 dS m−1), y en las subparcelas la combination de tres prácticas de fertilization potásica (sin fertilizatión, fertilizada con KCl convencional y de liberación lenta) con cinco dosis de biofertilizante bovino (0, 25, 50, 75 y 100% de dosis de 15 L m−2), con tres repeticiones y 12 plantas por parcela. Se evaluaron la conductividad estomática, transpiratión, fotosíntesis líquida, concentración interna de carbono, eficiencia en el uso del agua, eficiencia instantánea de la carboxilación y productividad de plantas de maracuyá en dos cosechas, por lo que los datos fueron sometidos a la evaluation estadística de muestras repetidas en el tiempo. La aplicación de biofertilizante bovino y potasio en suelo de textura arenosa irrigada con agua salina no inhibió la acción degenerativa de las sales a las tasas fotosintéticas de las plantas. La salinidad del agua de riego redujo la conductividad estomática, la transpiratión y la fotosíntesis líquida de las plantas, pero en la segunda cosecha, la eficiencia en el uso instantáneo del agua fue superior. A pesar de la productividad decreciente de la primera para la segunda cosecha, el biofertilizante bovino asociado a la fertilización potásica elevo el rendimiento de la cultura, que superó la media de Brasil, del Nordeste brasileño y del Estado de Paraíba, Brasil.

RESUMOA reposta das plantas ao estresse salino é um fenômeno extremamente complexo, que envolve alterações morfológicas, fisiológicas e bioquímicas alterando, dentre outros, os teores foliares de clorofila e carotenoides, comprometendo o crescimento, o desenvolvimento e a produção das plantas. O experimento foi desenvolvido em ambiente protegido do Centro de Ciências Agrárias da Universidade Federal da Paraíba, Areia, PB, no período de julho de 2011 a junho de 2012. Este trabalho foi realizado com o objetivo de avaliar os teores de clorofila a, clorofila b, clorofila total, relação clorofila a/b e produção de biomassa da parte aérea e radicular em plantas de noni submetidas à irrigação e lavagem do solo com águas de salinidade crescente. Os tratamentos foram distribuídos em blocos ao acaso num fatorial 5 × 2 com quatro repetições e duas plantas por parcela, correspondentes aos níveis de condutividade elétrica de 0,5; 1,5; 3,0; 4,5 e 6,0 dS m-1 da água de irrigação, em vasos sem e com dreno na parte final inferior para a lixiviação dos sais do solo. O aumento da salinidade da água de irrigação compromete os teores foliares de clorofila a, b, total, carotenoides e a produção de biomassa de plantas de noni mas em menor intensidade nas plantas de todos os tratamentos com a lixiviação dos sais com as próprias águas utilizadas na irrigação.

ABSTRACTThe response of plants to salt stress is an extremely complex phenomenon that involves morphological, physiological and biochemical changes, modifying the leaf contents of chlorophyll and carotenoids, among others and affecting plant growth, development and production. An experiment was carried out from July 2010 to June 2011, in order to evaluate the contents of chlorophyll a, chlorophyll b, total chlorophyll, carotenoids, the chlorophyll a/b ratio and biomass accumulation of shoots and roots of noni plants, when subjected to irrigation and leaching with water of increasing salinity. The experiment was carried out in a greenhouse, at the Center of Agricultural Sciences of the Federal University of Paraíba, in the municipality of Areia-PB, Brazil. Treatments were distributed in randomized blocks, in a 5 × 2 factorial scheme with four replicates and two plants per plot, and corresponded to levels of electrical conductivity of irrigation water (0.5; 1.5; 3.0; 4.5 and 6.0 dS m-1) in pots with and without leaching. The increase in irrigation water salinity impairs the leaf contents of chlorophyll a, b, total chlorophyll, carotenoids and biomass production of noni plants, but to a lesser extent in all the treatments in which same irrigation water was used for leaching.

Um experimento foi desenvolvido em ambiente telado do Departamento de Solos e Engenharia Rural da Universidade Federal da Paraíba, Areia, PB, no período de janeiro a abril de 2010. O substrato constou de material de um Neossolo Quartzarênico não salino, coletado na camada de 0-20 cm. Os tratamentos foram dispostos em delineamento inteiramente casualizado em esquema fatorial 5 x 2, referente aos níveis de salinidade da água de irrigação de 0,5; 1,0; 2,0; 3,0 e 4,0 dS m-1, no solo sem e com biofertilizante comum, aplicado ao solo uma única vez, após diluição em água, na proporção de 1:1, um dia antes da semeadura, em volume correspondente a 10% do volume do substrato. Aos 86 dias após a emergência das plântulas normais avaliaram-se o crescimento em altura e o comprimento da raiz, diâmetro do caule e da raiz, número de folhas e a massa seca das raízes e parte aérea das plantas. O conteúdo salino da água de irrigação elevou a condição salina do substrato ao ponto de comprometer o crescimento em altura e diâmetro do caule, número de folhas, diâmetro e comprimento da raiz principal, massa seca das raízes e parte aérea (folhas + caule) do nim mas com declínios menos pronunciados nos tratamentos com biofertilizante bovino.

An experiment was carried out in greenhouse during the period January to April 2010, at Center of Agricultural Sciences of the Federal University of Paraiba, in Areia, Paraiba State, Brazil, in order to evaluate the effects of saline water and bovine biofertilizer on the seedling growth of Indian neem. The substrate was material of a non-saline soil collected in depth of 0-20 cm. The treatments were arranged in a completely randomized design using a 5 x 2 factorial, referring to salinity levels of irrigation water of 0.5, 1.0, 2.0, 3.0 and 4.0 dS m-1, with and without bovine biofertilizer applied to the soil only once after dilution with water (1:1), a day before sowing, in volume corresponding to 10% of the substrate. At 86 days after emergence of seedlings the plant growth in height and principal root length, diameter of stem and root, leaf number and dry mass of roots and shoots of plants were evaluated. The salinity of irrigation water increased the salinity levels in the substrate inhibiting the growth in height, stem diameter, leaf emission by plants, diameter and length of principal root and the dry matter production of roots and aerial parts (leaves + stem) of neem, but with less pronounced decrease in plants under the treatments with bovine biofertilizer.
